Milanna Jones

Councilwoman Milanna Jones is a dynamic and self-driven woman who has called Pontiac her home since 2017. Since moving to Pontiac, she has remained an active member in her community. Her mission has been to provide thoughtful and impactful leadership in her community and allocate her time and energy efficiently for the well-being and longevity of her community. She is driven by her passion for learning, a desire to serve others, and her dedication as a mother of two girls. Councilwoman Jones is committed to sustaining a harmonious balance between her personal and professional duties and ensuring that each area of her life flourishes without sacrificing her values or well-being. She is ecstatic about contributing her experiences to actively participate in the rebirth of Pontiac.

Councilwoman Jones earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a concentration in Management in 2022 from Purdue University Global, and graduated with a 3.45 GPA. One year later, she ventured on to pursue a Master of Business Administration, with a concentration in Organizational Leadership from the University of Michigan-Flint, and is on track to graduate in April 2025. Her future educational plans include completing a Doctorate of Business Administration program to hone in on enhancing organizational strategic development and foundations in negotiations.

Beyond her academic achievements, Councilwoman Jones is deeply passionate about her community and strives to make a positive impact on those around her. Her career began with experience as an assistant summer camp counselor where she taught children fundamental aspects of horseback riding. She remained an active participant and volunteer in the equestrian community for 19 years. Councilwoman Jones acquired experience in retail management and entrepreneurship. She maintained a small business for five years, strengthening her skills in marketing, planning, management, and customer service. For 3 years, Councilwoman Jones served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Midwest Dressage Association, a 501c3 organization specializing in equestrian activities. She was elected to join the executive committee as Secretary in 2019 and was chairperson of two additional committees. She served as a Troop Leader for Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan in 2022 where she enhanced her skills in youth mentoring and teaching. Councilwoman Jones was appointed as President of The Pioneer Highlands Civic Association, Inc (PHCA) in 2022 and continues to maintain the position. During her term as PHCA President, the association obtained recognition as a 501c3 public nonprofit organization. Councilwoman Jones has worked to enhance the natural beauty of the residential park in her community, provided additional year-round community engagement opportunities, created convenient communication mediums for members (i.e., newsletters, webpage, email), and has facilitated the increase of memberships in the organization by 4% in less than one year. Councilwoman Jones works as Graduate Student Ambassador and Graduate Student Research Assistant at the University of Michigan-Flint where she advises prospective students of salient information pertaining to the MBA program and offers her organizational and clerical skills to enhance ongoing international research projects. Her blend of leadership, education, and community involvement solidifies her as a true asset to the City of Pontiac.

As a longstanding exemplary scholar, Councilwoman Jones is recognized for her academic excellence and has been acknowledged on the dean's and chancellor's list numerous times throughout her educational endeavors. She was inducted in the Golden Key International Honour Society in 2017, the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society, Alpha Lambda chapter in 2017, and the Society for Collegiate Leadership & Achievement in 2019. She is certified by the Mentor Collective Organization as a Student Success mentor and serves as a Graduate Peer Mentor for incoming students at the University of Michigan-Flint.
